AS Media Studies

I decided to use the last font as I think it will fit my magazine the best. Compared to the first font it is bold and the capital style helps it stand out.Moreover it doesn't look to complicated to the point it will overwhelm the front cover.

Location Exploration Location 1: The first location is in a local field. I like this location as it involves a lot of natural light. Therefore different subjects will be lit well. However I don't think this location would fit with the theme of my music magazine as I am aiming for an alternative style. Another thing I like about this location is the bright colours featured in the background. I think bright colours are attract and audience, However they are not suitable for this genre. Additionally these location would contrast greatly with the props I intend to use. This may make the magazine look unplanned and messy. Furthermore the background is very busy and would make the editing process difficult. Location 2: The second location is in the music studio at school. Props For my music magazine I plan to use props such as : Guitar Amps I chose these props as I think they fit with the alternative theme I want for my music magazine. My music magazine is aimed at an audience of 15-18 year olds. By having these props I think that it will make my front cover more eye-catching and more interesting to my target audience. Additionally by involving props it allows me to create unique shots with different poses based with and around the props. However props may make editing hard, I plan to do little editing for my front cover. Additionally by using props it helps readers identify what style of magazine my article is. Models I decided to contact my model through facebook messenger. The screenshot below shows concent from the model.  My final model is: Callum Flanagan- This model is a sixteen year old music student who has a passion for the alternative music industry. My model also is a musician and plays guitar, This is helpful as it means my model will look more natural with the prop as they have a musical background. I chose this model as he is a musician, Therefore I will be able to include props such as guitars. This will effectively make my front cover look more interesting and appealing. Double Page Spread This double page spread features a mid shot of one main subject. The main title is in big bold writing which is easily seen and stands out. By using different fonts the page looks put together and unique. Parts of important text have been made bigger and/or changed colour. Highlighting certain quotes with colour or boxes makes the reader pay close attention to these details. The theme of this double page is very simple as there are not loads of images making it look busy, instead the colour scheme is simple and put together. By using a plain background the picture and text stand out more. This magazine genre is pop as it features colours that would be aimed at a younger group of people and it also features a pop artist. Contents Page This contents page features a mid shot photo placed at the side of the page, this gives the reader an idea what might be inside the magazine. It also helps tie the different topics together as well as providing a visual insight for the reader. Located at the side are different section in the magazine as well as page numbers. This is effective as it is easy to understand for the reader. As well as providing extra information due to the small amount of text underneath each heading. Important parts of information are put in larger text with a page number in a different colour from the rest of the text. To encourage the reader to read more a advertisement box has been placed at the bottom. This is a good idea as the contents page is one of the first pages seen by the reader. Front Cover Analysis  Firstly this front cover features a medium shot as the main background. The main subject has a prop which is a guitar, this is situated at the bottom half of the picture. By using one clear picture it lets the reader know what the main topic is without being confused with other items/pictures. The main title is featured at the top in big writing so it stands out and is easily seen by the reader. A logo in the top left hand side and a circle a little lower on the opposite side can both be seen in red. These both stand out as they're a different colour. Both are affective at grabbing the attention of the reader and provide the front cover with extra information and detail. Uses and Gratification Uses and Gratification theory is the theory that everyone uses media for a different use and for a different reason. It focus' on the fact that people choose certain types of media to meet their needs. Due to this the media compete with each other to fulfill the viewer's gratification. When it comes to gratification there are five main aspects.  Tension Release : This is when people use media to relax or distract themselves. An example is watching a movie they enjoy or listening to music.
